The School

Two complementary paths, the Meditation Course and Buddhist Studies, which we extend with retreats and activities.

The paths of the School

How to choose?

01If you do not yet meditate, start with the meditation programme.

Practice is the pillar that will later help you integrate the Buddhist teachings. It is the most natural entry into Buddhism and the one that most facilitates the rest of the path.

02If you already have an established practice and want to go deeper, the Buddhist philosophy programme is your next step.

We accompany you in reading classical works of the Buddhist tradition and in learning to bring the Dharma into dialogue with contemporary questions.

03Still not sure?

Starting with a one-off activity (an empowerment retreat, a talk or an intensive practice) usually helps you decide.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to be a Buddhist to join a programme?Show answer

No. The programmes are open to anyone, with or without beliefs. All we ask is a sincere interest and a wish to practise.

Can I combine several paths at once?Show answer

Yes. Many people take the Meditation Course and, at the same time, a Buddhist Studies subject or a retreat. We'll help you organise it.

What's the difference between a retreat and a multi-year programme?Show answer

A retreat is a few days of intensive practice: it's a way to begin or to go deeper. A programme is a continuous path, with a group, guidance and follow-up, so that the practice takes root in your life.

How does the closed group work? What if I want to join late?Show answer

The Meditation Course starts every October with a stable group that moves forward together for three years. If you arrive late, begin with activities or retreats and join the next edition.

How are the courses structured?Show answer

Meditation Course: three years, with a weekly session, daily practice, tutoring and one retreat a year. Buddhist Studies: three courses of two semesters each, with core subjects, electives and a practice thread.

Do I need to travel to Casa Virupa? How often?Show answer

It isn't essential: you can follow it online. There is one onsite retreat a year in the Course and 1–2 optional gatherings in Buddhist Studies.

Does the online format offer the same teaching quality?Show answer

Yes. Same sessions, same people guiding, same follow-up. The place changes, not the support.

How much does the full programme cost?Show answer

Meditation Course: from €190 per block. Buddhist Studies: on demand or from €1,200/year. If the price is a barrier, ask us about scholarships.
